Free Snowman Keychain Crochet Pattern (Beginner, 30 Minutes)
· 3 min read

Two little balls, a carrot nose and a fringed red scarf: this free snowman keychain crochet pattern is one of the quickest amigurumi you can make. It's written for beginners, worked in continuous rounds, and takes about 30 minutes, so it's ideal for stocking fillers and bag charms.
You only need small amounts of three colours, which makes it a good way to use up leftover cotton from bigger projects. If this is your first amigurumi, the snowman is a gentle start: no colour changes inside a piece, no complicated shaping, and every round ends with a stitch count you can check.

What you need for the snowman keychain crochet pattern
- DK cotton yarn: white, red, orange
- 3 mm crochet hook
- 6 mm safety eyes (2) or black yarn
- Black embroidery thread
- Polyester stuffing
- Keyring with jump ring
- Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker
Any DK cotton is fine. Cotton gives crisp stitches and holds its shape on a keyring; acrylic feels softer but fuzzes with use.
Abbreviations (US terms)
- MR: magic ring
- sc: single crochet
- inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
- dec: single crochet decrease
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- FO: fasten off
Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. The number in brackets is the stitch count at the end of the round: check it every time and both balls come out even.

Assembly
- Sew the head to the top of the body.
- Sew the nose on the face, between the eyes and one round lower.
- Embroider a small smile under the nose with black thread.
- Embroider three small black buttons on the body.
- Wrap the scarf around the neck and tie it.
- Thread the jump ring through the top of the head and close it on the keyring.

Tips for a neat finish
- Work through both loops and keep an even tension, so the shape stays smooth.
- A keychain gets squeezed a lot: add a little more filling than feels necessary.
- Go around the neck twice when you join the two balls, for a joint that won't wobble.
- Hide every yarn end inside the body before cutting, so nothing unravels on your keys.
- Making gifts? Crochet all the white balls first, then all the scarves: batching saves time.
Questions
Are safety eyes safe for a child's keyring? They can come loose under strong pulling. For small children, embroider the eyes with black yarn instead.
